Team India.

Talking about India’s preparations. The team management has decided to rest seniors and give the youngsters a chance to perform. The selectors are keeping 2019 World Cup in their minds

Dropping The Axe

The selectors have not compromised on fitness. The most notably the exclusion of Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina. Raina hasn’t featured for India since February this year. Yuvraj didn’t give a great Champions trophy apart from the half-century in the opening game.

With plenty of options available as the replacement for the duo, their chance of making it to the 2019 tournament seems dull.

All eyes will be on MS Dhoni who hasn’t played competitive cricket for over a month. He was seen practicing in the nets at Dambulla to get match fit. The 35-year-old veteran’s future has been questioned time and again. The team yet to find the perfect replacement for him till now. His inclusion for the Sri Lanka series shows that he is in the plans for the World Cup. Although options are available in the form of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Replacing the legend will always be a difficult task.

The 20-year-old Pant will need a little bit more time to adapt to international cricket and KL Rahul is yet to prove himself as a Keeper. Few bad performances for the ‘A’ side may have cost Pant a place in the team. He was poor with the bat in the Rainbow nation. The talent he possesses can never be written off, and with a good performance in the domestic circuit, he seems to be the first choice replacement for MS Dhoni once he decides to hang up his boots. Inexperienced

Inexperienced Bowlers?

India’s bowling department seems to be an interesting one with the core of the seniors rested. Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal were called into the squad along with Kuldeep Yadav, while Bhuvaneswar Kumar was retained. Jasprit Bumrah will be making a comeback into the squad.

One of the two players to have impressed with the India ‘A’ Squad was Shardul Thakur (The other being Manish Pandey) who earned a national team call. But with the likes of Bhuvaneswar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah in the squad, he may not feature in the playing department. India’s spin attack is highly inexperienced which may be a matter of concern. But this will also be a good test with both Ashwin and Jadeja rested.

India will most likely go with 3 Spinners and 2 seamers with Hardik Pandya as the additional face bowler. Pandya will be one of the most important players in the squad as his all-round abilities have helped the squad on a number of occasions, most recent being his quick fire century.

Being very handy with the ball, and coming low down the order and accelerating from the word go surely boosts the team morale. He may just be the next Kapil Dev or Jacques Kallis.

Batting

Rohit Sharma will be high on confidence after he was promoted to vice captain. After an excellent Champions Trophy, he will be hungry for more good performances to cement his place in the world cup squad. Rohit Sharma recently told that he has given up on test cricket and ODI is where his full focus will be. He along with Shikhar Dhawan will open the batting for India.

Having impressed with the ‘A’ team and Ranji trophy, Karnataka batsman will make a return to the national team having missed out on the Champions Trophy due to a knee injury. With the likes of Kohli, KL Rahul, Ajinkya Rahane and Kedar Jadhav, India’s batting looks one to beat.
