Indian Women team has impressed everyone in last one and half year. Their performance in on going Women’s World Cup has been amazing which resulted in them qualifying for the semi finals. But the big question is what’s next? What about the women cricketers? Where will they be heading and what are their future plans?
We Should Learn From Australian Cricket Board?
Australian women cricket team is the best team in the world of women cricket at the moment, they have been dominating world cricket for a very long time now. The reason for their domination is their strong domestic cricket structure.
To add to that strong domestic structure Australian cricket board have introduced Big Bash league for women. India was the pioneer in starting T20 franchise league but Australians took next step and took the format of the sports to women. The results are showing on, Australian team score runs quickly, they have set a standard which other teams try to reach.
What has stopped BCCI for not starting a franchise league for women’s cricketers? We have one of the Richest Board in the world cricket. They should have started the franchise model cricket for a women’s long time back.
What will happen If we have Franchise cricket for women?
Women’s cricket is not yet a professional sport for the majority of women cricketers in the country. IPL was a huge success which added value to the domestic players. Having women cricket league, the women domestic structure in India will get value. The players will earn close to if not equal to men cricketers.
The exposure to high tempo matches day and day out will definitely boost players performance in International matches.
The pool of players for the selection will be widened which is always a great sign of development.
Smriti Mandana and Harmanpreet Kaur are two women’s cricketer who played in Big Bash league. The two clearly looked a class apart from rest in hitting ball miles ahead. India cannot rely on only two batters to make a big impact on International stage. Women cricket is getting stronger, the runs per innings getting increased. There is need of big hitters in the women cricket especially Indian team.
Indian women’s deserve a cash rich league, with the performance they giving on international cricket they need to bring some parity about male and female cricketers. The IPL format league will definitely help to do that. Hopefully, the Indian team will create history winning the world cup in England and BCCI will give a thought of starting women’s
cricket tournament on the line of IPL.
