India’s domination continued into the ODI series as they ran riot over a helpless Sri Lanka in Dambulla.
Having been put into bat first Sri Lanka got off to a solid start. Dickwella and Gunthalaka put on a 74 run opening partnership. Yuzvendra Chahal brought the first breakthrough for India as Gunthalaka was caught by KL Rahul. Kusal Mendis then partnered well with Dickwella to put on 65 runs together.
The turning point in the innings came when Axar Patel bowled Kusal Mendis, after which followed the Sri Lankan collapse.
Angelo Mathews scored a fighting 36 not out but ran out of support from the lower order. Sri Lanka collapsed from 150/3 to 216 all out.
Axar Patel was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/34. Bumrah Chahal and Jadhav chipping in with a couple of wickets each.
Earlier in the innings, Kohli produced a beautiful direct hit to get rid of Kapugedera.
India had a poor start to their Inning. Rohit Sharma went out early in India inning. Sharma’s lack of match practice during the course of the series was was showing up as he was struggling to settle in.
Dhawan scored a powerful 132 of 90 balls and put on a 192 run partnership with Virat Kohli who scored 82 off 70 balls to see the match with 21 overs to spare. Dhawan got to the 100 run mark in 71 balls, which was the second fastest by an Indian against Sri Lanka.
132 run smash buckling century earned Shikhar Dhavan man of the match award.
