FIFA World Cup Qualifier CONMEBOL: Once Again The Magician Saved Argentina

Argentina should thank Lionel Messi once again to save their blushes. Argentina needed a mountain to climb against Ecuador if they wanted to be part of FIFA World Cup 2018. In A do or die match Lionel Messi once again single-handedly turned the game in favour of Argentina.

FIFA World Cup Qualifier CONMEBOL: Argentina qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2018 beating Ecuador.

Argentina, after losing to Peru needed nothing less than a win over Ecuador to qualify for the world cup. The La Albiceleste had a poor record against Ecuador in Ecuador but on a big day Lionel Messi stood out as a leader.

Ecuador started the game with a bang, scoring a goal in the first minute of the game through Romario Ibarra. Lionel Messi and Argentina fans must have their heart in the mouth until Messi scored the equalizer in the 12th minute. De Maria provided assist for the Barcelona legend.

Just after 8th minute, Messi scored once again to give Argentina a 1-2 lead.

The second half resumed with Ecuador continuing their dominance on La Albiceleste . The Blue and white defence weathered the storm and that played dividend in the 60th minute, Lionel Messi scoring his hattrick taking La Albiceleste to Russia.

Ecuador apart from Messi brilliance dominated the match, they were the better team but Lionel Messi was the men who stood out from the rest. The victory has taken Argentina to Russia but they have a lot of question to be answered in their playing xi.

Over dependancy of the Lionel Messi is a worrying sign for the team. They have to find someone who can support Messi upfront. If it wasn’t Messi, the blue and white would have failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2018.

Lionel Messi 20 goals in the tournament have earned him one more record. He became a player with the most goals in the South American qualifier history.
