Iceland needed just a win over the bottom side team Kosovo to earn their maiden World Cup call-up. An emphatic 3-0 win in turkey had given them the opportunity for the direct qualification.
Heimir Hallgrimsson’s team took some time to settle down, the resolute Kosovo team did not make it easy for Iceland in early minutes. It took 40 minutes for Iceland to break the ice, Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the first goal for the team to settle the nerves of the fans. The solo run dribbling past 3 Kosovo defenders and slotting the ball nicely behind the back was a delight to watch.
The number 10 made an important contribution to the second goal for the team. He set up the second for Johann Berg Gudmundsson midway through the second half. This was a complete performance fro the Everton player for the national team.
