FIFA U-17 World Cup Lookbook: Niger
Few nations will be at the FIFA U-17 World Cup for the first time, and Niger is one of them.
Niger football team has been unsuccessful on the international stage and have never made it to any major FIFA tournament. The event will be a special one for them.

Nicknamed as Ménas, the team will be coached by Soumalia Tiemogo and are placed in a tough group alongside North Korea and heavyweights Brazil and Spain.

Before qualification for India 2017, Ménas had made it to the Africa U17 Cup of Nations on 2 occasions. First in 2015 when they hosted the tournament where they went out in the group stage and second in 2017 where they finished 4th.

Ticket to India

Their run to India began with the Africa U17 Cup of Nations Qualifiers, where they entered in the second round. They defeated Nigeria and Gabon to find a place in the tournament final round.
Niger was placed with Mali, Tanzania, and Angola in the Africa u17 Cup of Nations. After having drawn the first game and facing defeat in the second, the third match vs Tanzania was the decider where they managed to edge Tanzania 1-0 to book their place in the U17 WC 2017. They lost the Semi Final to Ghana and subsequently 4th in the tournament.

Players to watch out for

Ibrahim Marou and Abdoul Karim Sanda have both scored 2 goals each in the qualifying tournaments. But it is their defense on which they rely heavily on, which has leaked very few goals in all the matches.
