FIFA U-17 World Cup Look Book: Honduras

The SportNTalk team is starting a series towards the build of the U-17 World Cup, India. The series will revolve around all the 24 participating teams. 

The teammates have a good combination with each other, mostly play a 4-4-2 formation. They look composed on the ball.Mostly try to score through set pieces but get tangled at the back sometimes.
The Honduras Men’s National Teams have three nicknames: “Los Catrachos,” which is a term for someone from Honduras, “La Bicolor,” which represents the blue and white of the Honduran flags and uniforms and “La H,” which represents the H in Honduras. The junior team is called “La mini H”.

Past Performances

Having played no part in the opening two decades of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, Honduras has been something of a mainstay over the past ten years.La mini H, first time qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2007 South Korea.Since then they have just missed out on FIFA U-17 World Cup 2011 Mexico.Honduras U-17 lost in the group stages of 2007,2009 and 2015 world cups after facing defeats in all group matches.After missing on 2011 world cup they made a comeback in 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup UAE and made it to the Quarterfinal.This is their best finish till date.

Road to India

Honduras finished second behind in the Central American zone qualifiers to reach the CONCACAF U-17 Championship. They defeated by the hosts Panama but recovered by beating Curacao and Haiti to reach the classification round. A hugely impressive 7-1 victory over Cuba, teed up their progression to India, even after losing 3-0 to the USA.

Players to watch

Carlos Mejia and Patrick Palacio have been among the goals. Luis Palma is the key player who dictates tempo of the game. He has scored 2 goals while giving 4 assists.
